Over the past four years, PROMICON has been on a mission to learn from microbiomes and unlock their potential to power a greener future. Now, as the project wraps up, the PROMICON team is excited to share their discoveries in a newly published Legacy Booklet.
This accessible booklet offers a guided tour through PROMICON’s key work, showing how researchers across Europe joined forces to better understand microbiomes and steer them towards producing sustainable bioproducts like biofuels, bioplastics, and antimicrobial molecules.
From diving into natural microbial communities to engineering synthetic ones in the lab, the project brought together cutting-edge tools in biology, data science, and reactor design. Along the way, the team built digital platforms, developed innovative modelling techniques, and designed custom bioreactors—all aimed at turning microbial power into real-world solutions for the circular economy.
The booklet highlights each of the project’s work packages in a clear and engaging way, outlining major achievements while offering glimpses into the future of microbial biotechnology. For those looking to dig deeper, it also includes links to PROMICON’s video content, policy briefs, and open-access materials.
